Feedback is one of the basic guidelines in Interaction Design. Well designed system should be responsive to the actions users take, meaning it should provide feedback to indicate that interaction was recognized and successfully received.
Have you ever clicked on a button or a link and was left waiting for seconds or even minutes wondering if anything is actually happening? Chances are you had experienced products with poor feedback. It is frustrating as you really do not know if the system is just slow to respond, it froze and needs to be restarted, or it never even recognized the click.
Feedback is an essential component of one of the Nielsen’s heuristics – Visibility of the System Status, and is used in Heuristic Evaluation of digital products including Voice User Interfaces.
