UX design (just like any other professional field) comes with a set of terms and jargon that might sound like foreign language. This is a glossary of important UX terms that every UX designer needs to know.
There are 2 ways to use this list of terms to build your UX vocabulary. You can either pick and choose articles and read them one by one. Or refer to it as you encounter unfamiliar terms as you go.
Speaking of vocabulary. While UX terms are important to know, so you can understand what other designers are talking about, you have to be careful using them. Your understanding might differ from other UX designers, and non-designers might think that you are speaking in Latin to them. Instead of helping you communicate, these term will muddy your message and confuse others.
Remember that these terms simply describe concepts. Try and use plain words to talk about design concepts as often as possible. You might not sound as smart and educated, but your ideas will be heard and understood without any problems. Believe, me it is well worth the sacrifice!
Please note, this glossary is work in progress. I am regularly adding new terms and editing descriptions. Please let me know if you see any typos, mistakes, or glaring omissions.
Ands don’t hesitate to reach out and ask any questions you might have about particular UX terms or UX design in general!
